{"id":773,"date":"2011-08-21T13:58:12","date_gmt":"2011-08-21T13:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/?p=773"},"modified":"2011-08-21T13:58:12","modified_gmt":"2011-08-21T13:58:12","slug":"more-10mm-napoleonics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bucksurdu.com\/bucksblog\/2011\/08\/21\/more-10mm-napoleonics\/","title":{"rendered":"More 10mm Napoleonics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in two months, I picked up a paint brush. \u00a0With the prep for the move, the move, unpacking from the move, getting into the new (hectic) job at work, and going on vacation, I just haven&#8217;t had time.<\/p>\n<p>After the last play test of Look, Sarge, No Charts: Napoleonic Wars at a HAWKs club night, I wanted to make some changes to the base labels. \u00a0So yesterday, I relabeled all my French and Austrian figures.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_771\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-771\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/100_1019.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-771\" title=\"100_1019\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/100_1019-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"New labels on the bases of French infantry\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New labels on the bases of French infantry<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The rules worked pretty well that night &#8212; even with folks who don&#8217;t like Napoleonics. \u00a0At Historicon, one of the players observed that for combat you wanted to roll high, but for morale you wanted to roll low. \u00a0I share that frustration with rules design. \u00a0The fact that sometimes you wanted high and sometimes low was a hold-over from an earlier morale and skirmisher concept for LSNC:NW. \u00a0I was able to reverse the morale number so that the best kind of troops have a morale of &#8220;1&#8221; for &#8220;first class troops.&#8221; \u00a0This made all aspects of LSNC:NW consistent &#8212; you always want to roll high.<\/p>\n<p>(I just noticed that in the picture above, the are two &#8220;left side&#8221; bases and no &#8220;right side&#8221; base. \u00a0A battalion consists of two bases (a left and a right to get a complete label). \u00a0This allows Napoleonic battalions to be formed into column, line, and square.)<\/p>\n<p>In the process of rebasing all these figures, I found that I have several battalions of Russian infantry. \u00a0I have based them, but I haven&#8217;t labeled them yet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-772\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/100_1020.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-772\" title=\"100_1020\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/100_1020-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Early stages of 10mm French Legere\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-772\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Early stages of 10mm French Legere<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This weekend I also had a chance to start on some 10mm Old Glory French legere. \u00a0I am \u00a0painting four battalions of them. \u00a0The Old Glory 10mm figures come on the five-figure strips you see. \u00a0Six strips makes a battalion of infantry for countries that fought three ranks deep. \u00a0That&#8217;s 30 figures to a battalion. \u00a0At this point in the painting, you can see the black priming, blue uniforms, white belts and turnbacks, flesh on faces and hands, and brown muskets. \u00a0I hope to finish the shakos, including the yellow\/green and red plumes before the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>I have been dreading painting 10mm Napoleonic figures, but in practice, it&#8217;s not as onerous as I thought it would be.<\/p>\n<p>In rebasing, I discovered that I have just about two complete corps of French infantry, but I&#8217;m missing the light cavalry that would be in a corp. \u00a0This uses the 1806 order of battle for Davout (III Corps) and Lannes (V Corps). \u00a0I have a large corps of Austrians. \u00a0I&#8217;ve ordered some Grenzers and Jaegers to get the Austrians to a good state. \u00a0I have a bunch of unpainted Prussians to begin as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in two months, I picked up a paint brush. \u00a0With the prep for the move, the move, unpacking from the move, getting into the new (hectic) job at work, and going on vacation, I just haven&#8217;t had time.
