within the Cabinet War Rooms\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4972\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The &quot;Map Room&quot; within the Cabinet War Rooms<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the Cabinet War Rooms was also an extensive museum dedicated to Winston Churchill. \u00a0It was really terrific, tracing his life from his earliest days as a soldier and war correspondent to his second term as Prime Minister and his death.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4971\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4971\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2352.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-4971\" title=\"IMG_2352\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2352.jpg\" alt=\"A mockup of a trench in the Imperial War Museum\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A mockup of a trench in the Imperial War Museum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I have been to London several times, but I had never gotten to the Imperial War Museum. \u00a0I had been told it was primarily filled with WWI artifacts. \u00a0Since that war doesn&#8217;t interest me much, this museum always took a back seat to other things I wanted to see, like the British Army Museum. \u00a0The ground floor is dedicated to WWI, and the displays are excellent. \u00a0The museum focuses on soldiers&#8217; stories, not the battles and generals. \u00a0I really enjoyed it. \u00a0The other displays, WWII to the present were less impressive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2328.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4969\" title=\"IMG_2328\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2328.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We passed this sculpture at one point. \u00a0Since I have played a number of pirate games, I had to get a picture of this.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4976\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4976\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2358.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-4976 \" title=\"IMG_2358\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2358.jpg\" alt=\"The Globe Theater in London\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4976\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Globe Theater in London<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That evening we saw an excellent production of The Taming of the Shrew in the Globe Theater in London. \u00a0This theater is an exact reproduction of the original Globe. \u00a0It was really neat to see Shakespeare in the Globe in London.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4973\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4973\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2356.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-4973\" title=\"IMG_2356\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2356.jpg\" alt=\"The interior of The Globe\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4973\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The interior of The Globe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After three days at the conference, all of the folks I know headed home, but I stayed to attend the Partizan wargaming show in Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire. \u00a0That is the subject of my next post.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently travelled to London to attend a conference for work. \u00a0To save a large bag of cash on the flight, it was cheaper for us to go over a couple days early, so I had a chance to see a few fights the day before the conference started.
