portion of Miami, where we indulged in some terrific food. \u00a0We also purchased some Cuban sandwiches to take with us to have later for dinner. \u00a0During the walking tour the guide talked a lot about the Cuban community and the Bay of Pigs invasion. \u00a0We also passed a relatively famous park where the old timers play dominoes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_14341.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6299\" title=\"IMG_1434\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_14341.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">After leaving Miami, we headed for Everglades National Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16821.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6296\" title=\"IMGP1682\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16821.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Everglades were worth seeing, but frankly, they were the least impressive of all the national parks we have visited. \u00a0There is not much variation from one stopping point to the next. \u00a0After you&#8217;ve seen a few gators and birds, not much changes. \u00a0Again, it was worth seeing, but I think we&#8217;ve checked that box.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16471.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6297\" title=\"IMGP1647\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16711.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6295\" title=\"IMGP1671\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP16711.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">From the Everglades we headed down into the Keys, stopping for the night on Key Largo, staying as we usually do at a mom and pop motel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1685.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6302\" title=\"IMGP1685\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1685.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Seafarer is on the &#8220;bay side&#8221; of the keys, pointing north and west toward the coast of Florida. \u00a0From here we could see a terrific sunset.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1702.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6303\" title=\"IMGP1702\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1702.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We also enjoyed our Cuban sandwiches on the deck next to our room. \u00a0The Seafarer was low on ambiance on the outside of the rooms, but the insides were very nice, and they provided a nice continental breakfast that included egg frittatas,<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6304\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6304\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1698.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6304\" title=\"IMGP1698\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1698.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6304\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cuban sandwiches made by Cubans in Little Havana. Oh, how cultural of us!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The next morning we had planned to take a boat out the reef and snorkel for an hour or so. \u00a0The surf was too rough, with three-foot waves, so they weren&#8217;t taking folks out to the reefs who weren&#8217;t very experienced snorkels. \u00a0It wouldn&#8217;t have been much fun under those conditions, so instead we took a glass-bottom boat tour out to the reef.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6305\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6305\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1709.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6305 \" title=\"IMGP1709\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1709.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6305\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">While waiting for our glass-bottom boat tour, we enjoyed the small aquarium at the state park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1735.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6306\" title=\"IMGP1735\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1735.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">After about a 40 minute boat ride out to the reef, the boat slowed and loitered over the reef for about an hour while a guide pointed out different fish and coral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1740.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6307\" title=\"IMGP1740\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1740.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The number of fish wasn&#8217;t as high as I had expected, so after about 30 minutes, I had seen what I needed to see. \u00a0If the tour had been planned for just 30 minutes, however, it might have seen too short for the amount of money we paid. \u00a0This was definitely worth doing, but I think it would have been better in calmer weather.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1758.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6308\" title=\"IMGP1758\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1758.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">From Key Largo we headed to Marathon Key. \u00a0We had a terrific dinner at a local (but sort of expensive) seafood restaurant. \u00a0The local fish is yellow tail, and I had a lot of it during the trip. \u00a0It is a nice white fish that doesn&#8217;t smell or taste to seaweedy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1756.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6309\" title=\"IMGP1756\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1756.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We had an upstairs room with a nice view of sunrise, since we were on the &#8220;ocean side&#8221; and getting a smooch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DRC_Photo_0073.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6320\" title=\"DRC_Photo_0073\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DRC_Photo_0073.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">In this picture we&#8217;re not telling them to wait a minute or count to one. \u00a0We are preparing to tell them to swim fast across the pool. \u00a0They were so fast that if you blinked you might actually miss them swimming across the tank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">From Marathon Key we headed to Key West. \u00a0Along the way we saw an electrician working on some power lines from a helicopter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1794.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6321\" title=\"IMGP1794\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMGP1794.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Here we stood on the southern most part of the continental US and found the beginning of highway one, which runs up the coast to Maine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0368.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6323\" title=\"IMG_0368\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0368.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0360.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6324\" title=\"IMG_0360\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0360.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Frankly, Key West didn&#8217;t do much for any of us. \u00a0The place seems to really be about nightlife, partying, and drunk people behaving badly. \u00a0We had some very good food, and had a good time, but it is a place I am not in a hurry to visit again.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6325\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6325\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0356.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6325 \" title=\"IMG_0356\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0356.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6325\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A view of Key West from the tower at the shipwreck museum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0365.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6326\" title=\"IMG_0365\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0365.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0363.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6327\" title=\"IMG_0363\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0363.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We visited Ernest Hemingway&#8217;s house on Key West, which was interesting. \u00a0We also saw the 50+ cats, a large percentage of which have six toes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0350.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6328\" title=\"IMG_0350\" src=\"http:\/\/bucksurdu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It wouldn&#8217;t be a vacation without miniature golf. \u00a0There is only one miniature golf course on the Keys. \u00a0Being the only one, it could have been bad and still been crowded, but it was one of the better courses we&#8217;ve played. \u00a0So we played it again on our way back to the mainland for our flight home. \u00a0The first time we played, three of us had 49s and one had a 50. \u00a0The second time the spread was about four points between first and last place. \u00a0The miniature golf has become quite fun as everyone has come close in skill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Both Tom&#8217;s and Sam&#8217;s Spring breaks were the same week this year, so we took a family vacation to southern Florida to see the Everglades and the Keys. \u00a0We began our trip with half a day in the &#8220;Little Havana&#8221;
